    4х4 ProEvolution will be a mod for dreamcast's version of one of my favorite racing game 4x4Evolution with new cars, music, tracks, screens, AI, etc.

    Now "Jeep Wrangler YJ" is available in 4x4Evo for DC =)

    This game like Half-Life, I use standart tools as for PC version of 4x4Evo. PC version of game have big modders community and have many tools for modding.

    4X4 EVOLUTION EDITOR:
    I want to try to port maps and cars from Monster Truck Madness 2 and 4x4 Evo 2.
    But still need a lot of checks to find out what works in DC. I am looking into it. Later we will see what mods can be made of 4x4Evo DC. Maybe even some mods with a view from above like Micromachines. I still do not know. Need to check and check again how it works in DC.
    I am happy that I managed to insert into the game the new cars models. Already some progress. At least the game with new cars and music available. Music there in CDDA and Yamaha ADPCM, this should be no problems.
    When the mod is more or less ready, I'll post an image with a tools, which are used.
    Anyone who want to help is welcome.

    What exatct new in AI? In original version AI make me crazy. For example AI cars modified they cars like me. And i can't earn advantage when i buy new parts.

    Wow nice find there, cptPauer! I messed with POD files a little in the past but never expected so many 4x4Evo file formats to already have editors/converters for it. This engine seems VASTLY modable, from textures, models, tracks to even the replay file that is used in the menus. The metal.ini file also seems to feature some settings that COULD tweak the in-game graphics!
    A great plus of this game(if you can call it this way) is that it's a WinCE game and therefore can be booted from a multisession cdr using demomenu to save a lot of cds when testing.

    Are you sure? In a what moment of the game, this bug appears? Maybe when you buy a car from the CLASS 3?

    Yap, In this game you can change the model cars, logos, videos, music, AI course lines, tweak engine setting.. There are converters for textures and editors for maps .. But textures and map's models are stored in an unknown special .DC, .DC2, .DC3 file format. I still have no idea how run PC maps. I checked a little bit changed Monster Truck Mudness 2 map, which worked perfectly in the PC version of 4x4evo, but the DC showed bios screen in the middle of the map's loading. PC map are stored in POD frozen game too. I have a few ideas that need to check. I think that the maps based on those already in the game should run without problems. But we can't port radically reworked maps with new textures at this moment =( It may not have enough RAM, I do not even know. It takes a long time to check how maps with new textures works on DC

    Right. The LTE track files can be used in multiplayer mode by loading them from VMU. Not sure about the single player mode though.

    The DC+DC2+DC3 files never result in a size larger than 3mb therefore it looks likeit's the limit for custom tracks.

    Not sure about the single player mode though.
    It not working in single player.

    These formats have been described in 4x4editor help and other manuals and already well-known. The main problem is .DCs file format.
    "A .POD is Terminal Reality’s format for storing different files including art, models and trucks, etc… You can think of a POD as a type of .ZIP file.
    A .SIT (situation file) is a track file that is currently being edited. The .SIT file contains information such as the terrain file, location of models, tiles, checkpoints and other important information.
    An .LTE file (lite level) technically overrides the .SIT file of a particular .POD and rearranges the track into a new one. An .LRW file is the corresponding altitude file and is stored in the Data folder of the 4x4 Evolution root directory. The .LRW file is only needed while editing and does not need to be distributed unless someone else would like to edit your track.
    The screen output that is scrolling on your screen is a list of all the files as they are extracted. Each file will be automatically put into either the Art folder or Models folder depending on where they belong: Art Folder: .RAW .ACT .OPA .TGA Models Folder: .SMF .S3D "

    Yes, but editor open this maps with no proplems with PC textures. Textures and models in PC version stored in one .POD with .SIT (track file).
    PC version have all .SITs (and TEX, SIT, SDW, RAW, LVL, CLR) from Dreamcast. Simply, it is not stored in one .POD like dclevels.pod

    Yap. But RAW does not have headers.. Would know how it is done there stored.. And then we could port the new custom maps like MonsterTruckMudness2 maps.

    P.S. I am happy =D. I found this russian cars models for 4x4Evo: 1977 Vaz 2121 (Lada Niva) 1972 UAZ 469 (1986 UAZ 31512)

    Wow! This is epic on so many levels!

    This was my first Dreamcast game ever, and I REALLY love it! I played with the PC version and mods before, but I had never thought the game could be moddable on Dreamcast!

    Man, are there any Back to the Future Delorean mods for this game? :P

    Edit: Yes there are for 4X4 Evo 2. Can this be converted and included in the game please?

    If it turns out to be working for the DC version I'm sure there'll be more convenient ways for quickly pressing Ctrl-Y ,Ctrl-Z and Ctrl-S
    Btw, I can't get winpod to run on Win7. Are there any alternatives for creating POD files or do I have to install a Virtual pc with >win95 to run it?

    Hmm I've rarely come along a piece of software which is as user unfriendly as Makaron. It bombards you with cryptic error messages in Polish, requires you to install DirectX devkit, forces you to rename the DC bios files for some reason, features a readme file which reads more like a brainstorming session than a readme has no configuration menu, has a blog as a website and is almost impossible to configure your keyboard instead of a control pad. Luckily there is MakaronEX which improves on almost all matters, but it didn't run 4x4 evo CDI-image for me.
    Nulldc didn't work either saying "not implemented opcode : 38 : ldtlb @ 8C01257E" which is hinting to a lack of support for WinCE.

    Well that's kinda what I've been thinking. I wonder how difficult it would be to tweak the game's physics to have non-truck vehicle driving physics.

    It's possible to convert evo1 trucks to evo2 not sure about other way around... I guess it should be possible if you convert evo2 model to 3ds you can reconvert it to evo1 from that...

    Yeah, I been looking at all the mods and they are pretty kool. I signed up at that site that gives out the PC version of the game for free, but they charge you to download the damn cars.

    Seen some muscle cars too.

    Also, using Monster Truck Madness 2 maps and vehicles will be amazing! Man I loved that game on the N64!

    I always seen this as the Gran Turismo of offroad racing games. It would be awesome if we could include asphalt race cars into the mix and maybe even a map of Le Mans.

    This was my first Dreamcast game ever, and I REALLY love it!
    This is my first racing game on Dreamcast. Graphics after the Playstation1 impressed at the time. We played it for the best records in tracks in the dormitory of the University.

    Man, are there any Back to the Future Delorean mods for this game? :P
    Something like this would fit better in 4x4Evo =)

    The developers ended license, so they can not now sell game legally. So here they are earning so that's tricky ways. Distribute any game for free, but give access to the trucks on the site for the money.
    I can not pay through PayPal even if I suddenly want to buy a 4x4Evo2 vales.com membership. The banks in my country do not work with PayPal. But in any case, I do not like the 4x4 Evo2 game because of tainted Physics and excessive arcade.

    If you want to add Techno music, add some Prodigy.
    They are very popular and everyone knows their music. This is very corny. Well, not like the original music from the game. And I have to put Prodigy in my small mod of Under Defeat.
    With the same success we can take the music from Need for Speed 3,4,5. I think it's not such a good idea, because all it knows.
    Here is the original music from the 4x4Evo DC, converted from the Yamaha ADPCM file format: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
    I'm looking for music similar to that.
    It possible to insert music from 4x4 UAZ game. Here is samples: Multiupload
    But I'm not sure that it will appeal to all.

    Btw, I can't get winpod to run on Win7.
    This program does not work for me too (WinXP SP3 x86). Use this tools:
    Multiupload
    podview - can open and extract POD v1 and v2
    PODTool.exe - can create an POD v.1 file
    4x4UnPod.exe - can extract POD v2. Very good. I recommend

    4x4 have POD v.2 file format but I have noticed that game open POD v.1 too. So PODTool is useful for creating new PODs.
    Not necessarily pack all in archives. On the PC, the game sees files and without .POD if files are in the correct folders. In the Dreamcast I'm not sure. I packed in POD v1
    Even if you put the map in another .POD (and edit DCPOD.INI, of cause), it appears in the map list


    I can't promise anything but DC2 file is for sure a header-index file whose format might be not that difficult to understand. Once this is done it should be even less difficult to extract the textures from DC1 files or build new DC1 files.

    Haha yeah, that 4X4 Delorean I would think fit in the game better haha. I just didn't think it was already made into a mod so I didn't think to mention it.

    Yeah Prodigy are really mainstream, so I could see how you would rather want more obscure music. Other than that I didn't really listen to much Techno other than stuff on the radio on weekends.

    What do you think about Drum and Bass? It kinda has a Techno feel to it, and is pretty fast paced music good for racing games. I personally love Trance and Dubstep, but I know divagante HATES it haha.

    What do you think about adding some goode olde Brittish land Rover and Range Rovers?

    Do you have to replace vehicles or can you add extras to the existing list like in GTA IV on PC?

    I posted about this and blogged about it and got a few people to reply if you want to see what they said?
